In this article I will talk about the importance of Tarot reading for Tarot readers.
This principle applies to all those who help others with any kind of trauma work. It does not matter whether that is as an energy practitioner, a Tarot reader, a psychic, a medium, or any other spiritual/esoteric, or even pseudo-scientific, counsellor.
Sometimes we can all use a bit of support now and then.
What do Tarot readers do?
Tarot readers often act like psychologists/psychiatrists/counsellors (whatever name you would like to give to the pseudo-scientific medical profession of assisting people with mental health matters).
Tarot readers regularly work with clients who are going through traumatic periods, or, who are trying to process past traumas that have been creating problems throughout their lives.
These clients are trying to understand how to process the events that have/are happening and how to heal from those events. The Tarot reader helps them to do this in a compassionate and guided way, without judgement.
The Tarot reader does this by connecting, in some way, with the client’s energy. This connection, even when the topics under discussion are not particularly distressing, is akin to physical activity and can be hard on the Tarot reader. Once you include the traumatic events the client is trying to access and deal with this magnifies the draining effect and can cause negative emotions/issues to rise for the reader.
When negative emotions/issues begin to rise for the reader, they must put these aside in order to guide the client on their Journey. To do otherwise would be to blur the client’s message with the reader’s prejudices, or pull through a message for the reader that is entirely irrelevant/inappropriate for the client.
What to do with the emotions or issues raised once the client has left?
Each Tarot Reader has their own method/practice for dealing with negative emotions/shadow-work/protecting their energy/etc. You could not become an effective Tarot reader without this.
However, it can, especially if you are new to reading for other people, be very difficult to clear what comes up alone.
Those counsellors who work in the more “mainstream” medical field are expected to have sessions on a regular basis with another counsellor. This allows them to discuss anything that might have come up as a “trigger” for them in any sessions. They can talk through any problems in a way that preserves the confidentiality of the clients they work with. Allowing the counsellor to remain healthy and able to practice in a very stressful occupation.
This is something that Tarot readers, along with any other spiritual/energy workers can, and probably should, be doing as well.
Why have someone else read for you?
It is helpful to have someone else read for you when emotions are running high, or something particularly negative is trying to raise it’s head. Even as a highly experienced reader, the messages for the self can become clouded, or difficult to receive, when wounds are opened.
Another reader can bring through the messages you need in a compassionate, but disconnected way. This will enable you to receive the messages you need to hear without any of your own preconceived notions or prejudices.
Further, sometimes it is just good for you to be able to share issues with another person, who you know will understand and not judge you. To talk things through and feel heard and understood, if not for the actual scenario you have been through then at least your innate magical self (and all the weird things that crop up in the realm of Tarot/spirit/magic/etc.).
By getting someone else to assist in healing a wound opened by a particular reading for a client, Tarot readers can, just as counsellors do, ensure they keep themselves healthy and able to continue working in an often stressful and emotional environment.
Do you get another reader to read for you on a regular basis?
If you do, why do you have them read for you?
Do you get a friend to do the reading, or do you prefer a reader who is just a reader for you rather than a larger part of your life?
